The Cracked Teapot

This little book has the cutest illustrations - they make me smile.  It triggers one of those memories that I hold very dear to my heart.

When I was a little girl about five or six years old I used to go visit my granddaddy in Georgia and my Aunt Hazel - she lived with granddaddy at that time - who was quite a bit older than me, some 15 plus years if I had to guess, and she would play with me like a sister.

There were many times we would go outside and play with some old dishes, silverware, and teacups in the dirt - I should say that good old Georgia clay dirt.  We would make mud pies and fill the little teacups up with that old wet clay dirt and pack it tightly in the cups, turn them upside down, and out would come the most perfect mud pies I had ever seen.

Who knew that those old junkie dishes and teacups that were discarded and no one wanted anymore would bring such joy to a young girl then and now bring back such sweet memories many, many years later.  You don't see little girls making mud pies outdoors in the dirt these days.  You know, those really were the good old days, weren't they?

That's what comes to my memory when I look at the little teacup named "Chip" in this fairy tale.  Hope you like this one as much as I do.

"Lonely years passed while the Beast hid from the world. He refused to leave the castle. He didn't even want any tea. I tried to stay cheerful, but there's nothing sadder than an empty teapot - except an empty teacup like my poor son, Chip."

This listing is for a once loved Little Golden Book Storybook that has been upcycled to a notebook. I remember when my children were very young I always had to have writing paper or a book with us when we went to church to keep them quiet and their little minds occupied. A lot of times they would write on the pages of the books and in no time you couldn't make out the words in the story.

I turn children's best loved storybooks into little notebooks where they can draw and color and write and still keep the pages of the stories fresh for the next reader. In this upcycled Disney's Beauty and the Beast Notebook I've included the full story along with a colorful ribbon bookmark, 30 sheets of white blank paper, 10 sheets of writing paper, and 10 sheets of tracing paper just for your little one's creative side.

The measurements of this notebook is 8 X 6 3/4 inches.

This little book got me to thinking about all those broken teacups and broken teapots we run across at estate sales and I found this old post from 2009 and thought I would pass it on to you.  Enjoy!

How can you reuse or recycle broken teapots?

teapot

You could give gluing it back together a go — it’s not quite as much of a safety worry as say, gluing a broken handle back onto a cup/mug but there is still the risk of scalding if it comes off again at an inopportune moment.
So other less hazardous suggestions? Almost needless to say, teapots make very fun plant pots or utensil/pen pots. Depending how much of the spout remains, you could use it as an indoor water can too. The china/pottery from completely broken teapots can be used for drainage at the bottom of plant pots – although if the lid is intact and you’re buying another similar size teapot to replace it, keep the lid as a mix-match spare.

Any other suggestions ?

Upcycled Little Golden Book - The Night Before Christmas

These little books have been causing me to reflect on my childhood and how we would spend the Christmas seasons.  I was raised in a minister's home - so proud of that and so thankful for such wonderful parents and how they raised us - so the majority of our life was centered around God and service to people.

When I was little, and up until the time I got married, we didn't take a lot of vacations - unless you count going to our church conventions.  For as long as I can remember we always went to Columbus, Ga for Christmas to be with our aunts, uncles and cousins.  Most of our Christmas Eves were spent at my Aunt Betty's house, which was always so much fun because our cousins were the same age as my sister and I.

This is a tidbit of what I have stored in my memory bank - my sister might have some different memories than I do.  The house was full of the most beautiful decorations I thought I had ever seen, and there were always wonderful smells coming from her kitchen.  My family loved to eat and we always had more food on the table than what we could possibly devour at one time - now I know you cook more than you need so you don't have to stay in the kitchen 24/7 while your company is there.

The time around the dinning room table was where we would catch up on all the news of the family - and that's also where I had my first cup of coffee - actually it mostly cream and sugar.  I remember that my Aunt Betty always made me feel like I was so special.

Christmas Eve we went to bed early because Santa couldn't come until we were sound asleep - we always got up before daylight on Christmas morning to open presents.  Even if the kids were still asleep they woke us up to see what Santa had left us under the tree.

As we came out of the hall into the living room, my Uncle Lonnie was always there with the movie camera - you know the one with the glaring lights that would blind you if you looked straight at it - making sure he captured our first ohhs and ahhs as we laid eyes on our treasures.

This Little Golden Book brings back all those memories whenever I look at the pictures.  Oh, for life to be that sweet and simple again.  Now it's days filled with shopping and cooking, cleaning and cooking, and cooking, and cooking.....

As you look through this sweet notebook I hope it causes you to remember all the good times in your childhood.  Be sure to take the time this year to make wonderful memories with your little ones so they will have a file of great memories they can reflect on years from now.  I hope this little book helps you do just that.

Thanks for reading,
Vicki

Upcycled Little Golden Book - Barbie Cinderella

How does she do it?  Barbie is still prettier today than she was many, many years ago - did I say "many"? - and she is still as popular or more popular than ever, and as she has 'aged' she's become more valuable.  Sure wish I could say all that about myself.

This upcycled Little Golden Book reminds me so much of traveling up to my Aunt Betty's house and playing with my cousin Brenda for hours on end with all of her Barbie dolls: Barbie, Ken, Midge and Allen.  We would play for days on the warm wooden floor in her bedroom and we would enter Barbie World and become Barbie and Midge - I was always Midge and never a Barbie.  Those days are forever etched in my memories and they are sweet ones for sure.

See if this brings back some memories of those days gone by for you.  Sure hope they do.

Santa's Toy Shop Storybook Notebook

I remember as a little girl what I'll call the "Christmas Magic" in the air.  One Christmas Eve I just knew I heard the sleigh bells on Santa's sleigh - oh, if life was that simple again.

The smell of the pecan pies baking in the oven, the noise of all the cousins running around the house, the early dinner - or we called it supper when I was little - and then jump into the bathtub for a quick wash and head straight to bed so Santa could come.  Remember when????

This Little Golden Book makes all those memories rush in and while giving me a sense of sadness because things are different now some 40+ years later, it makes me smile and think on all those good times with family and friends.  May it bring a smile to you and your little one today.

Sorry - Raggedly Ann and Andy are gone!

Too late for that one - it's already sold.  I knew these little books would be a hit.  Within 30 minutes after I posted that little treasure it was already adopted out.

So I'm going to show you another one that was listed just recently called The Country Mouse and The City Mouse.  How cute is this Little Golden Book - if mice really were this cute we'd keep them around our house.

Upcycled Vintage Little Golden Book

Do you remember all the Little Golden Books you had when you were little?  I remember reading them to my sister when we were young - boy was that a long, long time ago.  Still these little books tug at my heartstrings and I can't resist picking them up and turning the pages again.

Lately I've come across some of these trusted old friends at estate sales and various places I bargain hunt and couldn't resist taking them home with me.  I couldn't stand the thought that their next home might just be the land fill - so I rescued them and I'm turning them into what I think are treasures.  Let me show you one of these sweet little books now - after all Christmas is coming very soon and these little books would fit perfectly in someone's stocking this year.

Professionally bound with o-wires so that the book will lay flat while you read, draw, write, or trace.

The tracing paper allows that little one to recreate the picture on their own. What fun that would be!

If you like this go to www.jbunae.etsy.com to see my other listings.
If there is a special book that's close to your heart and you would like to have me turn it into a new treasure for you just let me know.
